The Creative Fact of Matter is Magic
When we begin, everything is new. We don't understand the essence of vibration of a thing yet, let alone how to embody and imbue that essence into our work.
As children we scratch in the earth. Splash in the water. Waving our arms wildly about. We experience the joy of being alive in the moment regardless of our surroundings.
Fleetingly at first, we begin to notice resonance. That feeling when something momentarily feels more of this and less of that. Sensing this rock is magic, or holds the power of the universe. Or the glimmers of sunshine ricocheting off the water's silky surface trigger thoughts of fireworks. It's a subtle feeling, easy to miss or write off as random, but it's very real.
Beginning a new thing is oftentimes like that. Art, music, friendship, even business. We search blindly in what seems like the dark for some hint of connection, a spark, that sets the current in motion.
What we often don't realise is this current of energy, of potential momentum is always there, hidden behind a veil. It's waiting for us to allow it through into this reality through our being.
Artificial results can be forced, coerced and produced in a mould. Or outright copied to the best of our abilities.
However this way of creating never yields the true depth of accomplishment and experience of being that we seek. Uninspired, perfectly replicated, work hollows over time, like a copy of a copy of a copy. Fading in vibrance, the feeling of aliveness contained in the original dulled.
Or a more extreme example – compare a freshly picked apple with an identical plastic replica. From afar they may appear similar, but the closer we get, the more we interact with it, the more we feel deceived. Tricked into believing something is other than its true nature.
This is much of our modern society. Filled with an abundance of imitation, masquerading as the real thing.
Is it any wonder we feel ever more dead inside while living in this version of reality?
The antidote and path to true expression is simple, but not easy. Not easy in the way that it was sold to us by clever marketers. Easy is often a pleasant cover for the word 'lazy' – expertly word-smithed by Ad-men and their words of silver tongue snake oil.
True expression requires both structure, as in pattern of sustainable activity, and the present moment awareness we talk so much about.
As a child at play, there is no end goal, simply action in the moment. Through this infinite game we free ourselves from the grasp of anxiety for a rigid future, and begin to open ourselves to the energy around us. The ever-present source seeking expression through us.
The rock becomes infused with magic, the shimmering water with fireworks. This is not to be taken as matter of fact, but rather the fact of the matter. The matter reflects and reveals the truth of our creativity back to us.
It is in these moments of magic and fireworks that we see, however momentarily, a glimmer of the infinite flow of creativity hiding cheekily behind the veil.
From this state of childlike wonder and play, or way of being, we begin to create directly from source. This is the process of allowing innate expression to be what it is.
